The customs
Read this before your first hand
One page, three parts — the door, the tables and the servery, each with its own short list of what to expect.
At the door
Eighteen and over, checked at the door
- The door checks photo identification for eighteen and over on the way in, without exception.
- There is nothing to join and nothing to pay simply to find a seat — the room is open to whoever arrives.
- Anything bulkier than a small bag is usually kept under the table rather than left at the door.
- A party larger than six may be split across two tables, depending on how the evening is running.
At the tables
The house dealer's word ends the discussion
- Disputes at the felt are settled by the house dealer; nobody may overrule that call from another table.
- Every chip on every table is worth points and nothing else, whichever way the hand finishes.
- If you are new to the game being played, please say so before the deal, and someone will explain it.
- Phones are asked to stay silent before you sit down; step outside for a call to keep the table moving.
- A chair left empty for too long during a hand may be offered to the next person waiting.
At the servery
Staff pour every drink, without exception
- Staff handle every pour at the servery counter; even long-standing regulars do not step behind it.
- The servery calls last drinks half an hour ahead of closing, exactly as the room's schedule requires.
- Water is provided free whenever it is requested — the room warms quickly once every seat is taken.
- You will not find a wagering terminal or anything resembling a gaming machine anywhere near the servery.
